Breaking the 1 million barrier: health texts in Nigeria, Facebook likes in Egypt, radio listeners in Morocco
OneWorld's "Learning about Living" projects have just broken another 1-million milestone: that's how many questions our partner Education as a Vaccine has now answered from Nigerian youth seeking accurate, confidential, non-judgemental information about their health and bodies.
Meanwhile our Ma3looma Facebook page -- Ma3looma means "small bit of information" in Arabic -- has surpassed 1.4 million likes. And "On t'Ecoute", the live call-in show we launched with Hit Radio back in 2012, continues to reach millions of Moroccan youth with its interactive format, mixing radio, phone, and social media, four nights a week.
We've recently launched an iPhone app in Egypt and prototyped an Android app with youth in Benin. It will be interesting to see how long it takes until we hit 1 million smartphone users, as the technology expands across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
