When Gary Maddocks rejoins Mike Evans and his Counter IED Team in Afghanistan he is pleased.  He has been finding life back home with Emma dull and is impatient to get back to the job he loves, but had he known what fate had in store for him would he have been so eager? Being on a tightrope is living, everything else is waiting: It’s like an addiction...but has the luck run out?

The play has recently been selected for publication by Bloomsbury Methuen:

We are delighted to be publishing Ross Ericson’s Casualties as part of the Park Theatre’s inaugural season. Ross Ericson is a brave new voice in the theatre world and the Park Theatre is an ambitious and exciting venture, which will be an important player in developing new playwriting.

Methuen Drama, Bloomsbury

Ross Ericson Commenting on the forthcoming premiere of Casualties:

I chose to centre my story around two members of the Counter-IED team because the bond between such men, like all soldiers, is stronger than that of family, I am fascinated by how men can put their lives at risk so readily. They experience life so differently to us, theirs is a different reality. Their constant proximity to death, the constant fear of injury, makes all those terribly important things we civilians fret about every day fade into insignificance. All that noise we fill our lives with, celebrity, consumerism, reality tv - it all gets drowned out under the sound of bombs.
