West Africa food crisis: Close the funding gap
24th July 2012,
18 million people are struggling to survive the crisis but funding to meet the humanitarian needs in the region is lagging far behind. For many families in Mali, armed conflict is making the situation worse. Nearly 400,000 have fled their homes. But the only places they have to go are neighboring countries, also hit hard with the food crisis. The funding to help these people lags far behind what is needed to provide water, food, shelter, and seeds. $1.6 billion is needed. Only 45% of that has been met.
